Research: Embracing Jewish Diversity

European Union of Jewish Students is embarking on an exciting journey towards fostering greater inclusivity and diversity within our Jewish communities across Europe. We are delighted to introduce you to the Embracing Jewish Diversity Research Survey, a crucial step towards achieving our vision.

In today’s ever-evolving world, it is imperative that we ensure every member of our Jewish communities feels valued, represented, and empowered, regardless of their background or identity. To achieve this, EUJS has taken the initiative to address the inclusion of various groups within our communities and organisations that historically faced underrepresentation and oppression.

The Embracing Jewish Diversity program is dedicated to promoting inclusion and empowerment for all members in Jewish communities, with special focus on LGBTQIA+ Jews, Jews of Colour, Jews with disabilities, Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews, as well as on an enduring issue: women’s empowerment. By understanding the unique challenges and opportunities faced by these communities, we aim to create a more vibrant and diverse Jewish landscape in Europe.

The survey has different questions aimed to better understand how the communities and organisations have so far worked with questions of diversity, equality and inclusion. We are also trying to better understand the local and national contexts in which the communities and organisations are located.

The heart of this program lies in our comprehensive research, which will delve deeply into the experiences, perspectives, and needs of these groups within our Jewish communities. The insights gained from this study will not remain within EUJS but will be shared in a form of a report with Jewish communities across more than 40 countries and with our member unions throughout Europe. These findings have the potential to guide our member unions and communities in their strategic planning and inspire action on the issues of diversity, equality and inclusion within our communities and organisations.

EUJS asks for your active participation in the survey. We sincerely hope that you will provide us with honest and candid feedback. Your perspectives and experiences are vital in shaping our future strategies and actions to promote diversity and inclusion. Together, we can build a more inclusive and diverse future for European Jewish communities.

The survey will be open from 26 of September to 27th of October 2023.

Please note: We estimate that completing this survey will take approximately 30-40 minutes of your time. Your responses will contribute significantly to our understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by members of our communities.

The Embracing Jewish Diversity program is multi-faceted, and in the future it will encompass various initiatives, including the creation of networks, micro-grants, and the development of a toolkit. We envision a Europe where every Jewish individual feels valued and included, regardless of their background or identity. Your participation in the Embracing Jewish Diversity Research Survey is a crucial step towards achieving this vision.

Thank you for your commitment to this important cause. We look forward to sharing the journey of Embracing Jewish Diversity with you and witnessing the positive changes it will bring to our communities.

The Embracing Jewish Diversity program would not be possible without our partner organisation UJA Federation New York.
