What is Izieu?

In November 1942, Nazi Germany took control of the areas under the Vichy Regime. In April 1943, the Children’s Aid Society (OSE) established a children’s home that provided refuge for dozens of children in the village of Izieu, formerly Vichy territory.

On the morning of April 6, 1944, the Lyon Gestapo raided the Izieu children’s home, arresting 44 children and seven staff members. Following their incarceration in Lyon, they were deported to Drancy the next day. This seminar is dedicated to educating and keeping the memory of Hidden Children alive.
