We acknowledge that many Jewish organisations feel forced to choose between maintaining institutional ties and preserving their values and ideals.<em><br><\/em><br>We strive to represent all Jews in our community, irrespective of who they are, how they practice their Judaism, and who they love.\u00a0<strong>In line with these values and our commitment to Israel, we cannot normalise extremist views.\u00a0<\/strong>Chikli described pride as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/2022-12-29\/ty-article\/.premium\/israels-new-diaspora-minister-called-tel-avivs-pride-parade-a-disgraceful-vulgarity\/00000185-5e21-d819-a995-fea176c60000\">\u201cdisgraceful vulgarity\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and sees the pride flag as an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/2023-01-06\/ty-article\/meet-amichai-chikli-israels-new-diaspora-minister-who-opposes-bds-and-reform-judaism\/00000185-85c4-d9f4-abf7-85ef8f160000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anti-zionist symbol<\/a>.<em><br><br><\/em>Chikli has denigrated reform Jews. In his words,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/2023-01-06\/ty-article\/meet-amichai-chikli-israels-new-diaspora-minister-who-opposes-bds-and-reform-judaism\/00000185-85c4-d9f4-abf7-85ef8f160000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cthey are going back to their roots in Germany of anti-Zionism and anti-nationalism. It\u2019s a tragedy that they are going there.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<strong>At a time when Jews in the diaspora face rising antisemitism, it is unconscionable for anyone who professes to be a Jewish leader to incite hatred towards other Jews.\u00a0<\/strong><em><br><br><\/em>In the last 48 hours, Chikli has demeaned himself and his office by using George\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/diaspora-minister-chikli-calls-j-street-hostile-amid-tussle-over-photo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Soros<\/a>, a \u00a0lightning rod for antisemitic conspiracy theories, to attack a diaspora Jewish organisation. When Elon Musk said Soros \u201chates humanity\u201d who seeks to \u201cerode the fabric of civilisation\u201d, echoing historic antisemitic tropes. Chikli replied, &#8220;Criticism of Soros (\u2026) is anything but antisemitism, quite the opposite!\u201d\u00a0<strong>As campus leaders who fight antisemitism every day, we know the dangers of those tropes and those who defend them.<\/strong><em><br><\/em><br>Israel\u2019s Minister of Diaspora Affairs does not speak for the diaspora.
