RESOLUTION – Increase of extreme political parties in Europe

Preamble

Between the 7th to the 9th of June 2024, the European elections took place, where citizens of the European Union voted for representation at the European parliament. The results of this election have shown a strong increase of the far right and far left political groups within the European parliament.

EUJS notes that:

1. In the newly elected European Parliament, there are parties and individuals that continue to promote antisemitic, racist, anti LGBTIQ+, and xenophobic values throughout their campaigns, in their positions and with their actions.

2. Some members of far right parties are neglecting and/or denying the existence of the Holocaust, and their role during the second world war in Europe.

3. Members of Far Right and Far left parties are instrumentalizing the Israel / Hamas war in order to gain voters, resulting in the hate of Jewish students on campuses throughout Europe.

4. Some far left parties have not condemned the October 7th attacks against Israeli civilians, and are openly supporting Hamas terror.

5. Extreme political parties are a threat to the European Union and Ukraine’s fight against Russia invasion

EUJS believes that

1. Parties and/or associations denying the right of Israel to exist, or justifying Hamas terror can’t be EUJS partners and real allies in fighting antisemitism or racism in Europe

2. Extreme right parties and/or associations have strong ties to antisemitic, racist and xenophobic groups, and can’t be EUJS partners.

3. Far-right political parties and/or associations are a huge threat to our common basic European rights, especially women’s rights.

4. Extreme political parties are a threat for fostering Jewish life in Europe, especially for Jewish students on campuses.

EUJS proposes to

1. Condemn all candidates and/or parties and/or associations supporting antisemitism, racism or any form of xenophobia.

2. Condemn all candidates and/or political parties and/or associations supporting Hamas terror, not condemning the terror acts of the 7th of October and denying the right of Israel to exist.

3. Support and help all of its member unions act against the extreme candidates and/or parties and/or associations promoting antisemitism, racism and xenophobia in their countries.
