RESOLUTION – “Give peace a chance” – Yitzchak Rabin
EUJS believes that:
EUJS is, according to its policies and its constitution, a Zionist organisation. As a Zionist organisation, it recognises the inalienable right to self-determination of the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, the land of Israel.
The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination is inalienable.
The Two-State Solution remains the most viable way for a sustainable, dignified, and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
The European Jewish student community holds diverse views on issues relating to Israel. Because Israel holds a special place within the hearts of the overwhelming majority of young European Jews, EUJS has a unique responsibility to understand and convey this diversity.
EUJS further believes that:
The State of Israel must remain both Jewish and democratic.
As the State of Israel is the homeland of all Jewish people and events in Israel inevitably impact the global Jewish diaspora, we have an inherent and historical right to voice our opinions on fundamental questions concerning the past, present, and, in particular, the future of the Zionist project.
Criticisms against Israeli government politics are legitimate if they do not undermine the right of the State of Israel to exist and defend itself.
The only possibility for the State of Israel to maintain both its democracy and its Jewish character, and finally achieve a lasting and stable peace – for which we all collectively yearn for – is a two-state solution. This solution envisions the existence of the State of Israel alongside a sovereign and democratic Palestinian State.
EUJS resolves to:
Advocate for a two-state solution in its programming, campaigns, and forums where EUJS is active, within the State of Israel and the wider Jewish World.
Support and work with Jewish and non-Jewish organisations and individuals that promote sustainable peace and a two-state Solution, according to the values of EUJS. Conversely, to not support or collaborate with Jewish and non-Jewish organisations and individuals that do not align with these values, and undermine Israel’s right to exist and defend itself.
